Custom Under-Brim Printing for Straw Hats
Plan the print area, artwork scale, direction, and size versions on the actual brim.
- ✓ Local logos, borders, repeats, and broad-area prints
- ✓ Artwork scaled to the finished brim
- ✓ Print direction, registration, and size versions defined
Map the Brim Before Designing
Usable area depends on the material, crown opening, brim width, curve, and edge. Use Sizes and Fit when measurements change by size.
- Surface: Material, weave, base color, edge, stiffness, and panel direction
- Geometry: Crown opening, outer edge, width changes, joins, and no-print zones
- View: Front centerline, reading direction, visible area, and size version
Choose the Print Layout
The layout determines the artwork map and what must be checked on the sample.
1. Local Logos and Motifs
A single logo or motif placed below the front, side, or back of the brim.
- Position: Finished size, location, reading direction, and edge clearance
- File: Vector artwork, colors, centerline, no-print zones, and hat size
- Sample check: Legibility, distortion, alignment, and worn visibility
2. Borders and Directional Artwork
A perimeter design or graphic with a clear front, top, or reading direction.
- Map: Border width, edge distance, start and end points, margins, and joins
- Orient: Front, reading direction, text alignment, continuous or mirrored layout
- Sample check: Continuity, spacing, curved text, and front alignment
3. Repeat Patterns
A tiled pattern covering part or all of the usable underside.
- Repeat: Tile size, motif scale, density, direction, and start point
- Crop: Rules for the crown opening, outer edge, joins, and no-print zones
- Sample check: Gaps, clusters, half motifs, color, and pattern balance
4. Broad-Area Prints and Printed Panels
Broad coverage using a feasible direct route or a separate printable panel.
- Route: Confirm direct printing or a separate panel after feasibility review
- Sample check: Coverage, registration, wrinkles, edge, added thickness, flexibility, and packing
- Separate component: Use Custom Patches when the graphic is not part of the brim
Approve the Print on the Hat
A flat proof cannot show curve distortion, worn direction, edge treatment, or brim behavior.
Brim Template
Mark the crown opening, edge, centerline, print area, margins, joins, hardware, and no-print zones.
Printed Sample
